A Dog Friendly Day in Newquay, Cornwall

Newquay is a lively seaside town on the north coast of Cornwall. Famed for its surf culture, vibrant community and easy transport links, it’s a popular place to visit. There’s plenty to see and do in Newquay and today we thought we’d share our guide to the best walks, beaches and things to do in the town.

Beaches and Walks

Newquay is home to so many dog friendly beaches, you really are spoilt for choice. With the newly announced amendments to the dog ban, even more beaches will be accessible to dogs from 2020. Fistral beach is the surf capital of the county and hosts the annual Boardmasters competition each year. The music festival is hosted nearby each summer, on the cliffs overlooking Watergate Bay.

The coast path around the Pentire headland is breathtaking, passing Crantock, Holywell Bay and on to Perranporth. The terrain is flat and easy to walk – a very family friendly route. It is possible to walk the entire stretch of the path in one day, however there are plenty of places to park at beaches along the way, if you fancy something shorter. If you’re visiting in spring or early summer, be sure to check out the Polly Joke poppy fields!

Places to Eat

A hot drink at Box and Barber Coffeehouse is the perfect way to start a dog friendly day in Newquay. Right in the heart of Newquay, it’s a great place to soak up the atmosphere of the town. They serve a variety of locally sourced cakes and pastries, including cinnamon buns from the Da Bara bakery on the Roseland, which we highly recommend!

Lusty Glaze is definitely one worth visiting! Tucked away on its own private beach, the restaurant and bar are bold and vibrant inside. Dogs can even be treated to their own dinner, with the proceeds donated to local rescue organisations.
