Things to Do This Mother’s Day With a Dog

Treat mum to a special day out with the dog on Mother’s Day.  As well as the chance to celebrate all things Mum, Mothering Sunday is the perfect opportunity for a day out with the whole family. Whether you’re planning a fancy lunch or a full-throttle adventure, here are a few suggestions for Mother’s Day outings where the dog can come too.

Sunday Lunch

With so many eateries welcoming dogs for a slap-up Sunday lunch, why not indulge in a family feast where your four-legged friend can come too? Plenty of gastro-pubs serve delicious Sunday roasts, so why not choose one in a scenic location where you can enjoy a walk to work up an appetite or set off on a stroll once you’re stuffed to the gills? We love the bang-on-the-beach location of Lusty Glaze in Cornwall where The Pickled Chef turns out a special Sunday dinner, or a rugged walk along the Pembrokeshire coast followed by a roast in the historic Plantagenet House restaurant in Tenby.

Glorious Gardens

Instead of buying flowers for Mum, why not take her to see the colours of spring blooming in one of the UK’s glorious botanical wonderlands? Spend quality time together wandering through carpets of bluebells, strolling amongst the snowdrops and tunnelling through the treetops with your hound at your heels. Lots of gardens welcome dogs and their well-behaved owners, and many are also home to dog-friendly restaurants and cafés, where you can treat mum to an indulgent cream tea or delicious lunch. Hit the Beach

Staycation with your dog, UK

What’s a better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with a trip to the seaside? Nowhere in the UK is further than 63 miles from the sea, so make tracks to the coast that’s closest to you and make paw-prints in the sand or tackle a chunk of the coastal path. There are so many stretches of sand to choose from, and the majority of the UK’s beaches don’t have any dog restrictions until the Easter Holidays. You could even pack a picnic spread to serve mum in a scenic spot, or plan a pit stop in a restaurant with a view. We love the Beach Hut on Watergate Bay, near Newquay in Cornwall, or The Gunton Arms in the historic deer park close to Cromer, where one of Mark Hix’s protégés cooks local venison and seafood over an open fire.

All-weather Attractions

No matter what the weather throws at you in March, nothing beats a family day out with the dog doing something you all love – whether that’s a ride aboard a steam train, stepping back in time at a historical attraction, or ramping up the action on a family adventure. From the Eden Project in Cornwall to boat cruises in the Lake District and even theme parks where dogs can come too, there are plenty of all-weather attractions across the UK where the dog can join you for a fun-packed day out with mum.
