Attached to the owners’ home, High Hurst is part of an original 18th-century farmhouse which has smaller outbuildings, including an original Victorian outhouse. It is surrounded by 20 acres of prime grazing land encompassing a quarter of a mile stretch of the River Duddon, this spate river is crossed by a series of ancient stepping stones along its length. During the lambing season and winter months, Herdwick sheep occupy the associated farmland prior to release onto the upper fells, leaving the owners small flock of Ryeland sheep as permanent residents of the farm, keeping the hens company. Secluded, peaceful and with breathtaking views, High Hurst offers the perfect location for the Lake District visitor looking for inspiration and relaxation.

“A fantastic Holiday Cottage for 2 people and very caring owners who pay attention to detail in every aspect at this wonderful location in the unspoilt Duddon Valley.”

Howell, December 2019

“Very welcoming lovely location”

Valued Customer, October 2019

“Lovely cottage in the Dunnerdale valley…a great place to get away from it all.Robin friendly and welcoming and the animals are great just ask for a look around.Just make sure you have food to last as there aren’t any shops around. All round excellent.”

Barry, October 2019

“Great *****”

Doug, September 2019

“Robyn was an excellent host and gave you all the information that you needed. Cottage was well stocked. The only drawback was that due to hens and ducks loose in the garden occasionally we didnt feel safe leaving our dogs loose in the garden but we were given a fenced in field for them to run about freely. Found a lovely pub 2 mls away that did good food and it was very dog friendly. Would definitely recommend and return.”

John, September 2019

“A great cottage if you want to explore the lesser-known, quieter parts of the Lake District. Very helpful owners.”

Jo, August 2019

“Excellent cottage although the ducks do come into the garden quite often which is lovely except when you have a dog who likes to chase them so had to be kept on the lead. Robyn is very friendly and welcoming. The only down side is there’s no phone signal but that didn’t spoil our enjoyment.”

Julie, August 2019

“High Hurst is a very cosy cottage attached to the main farm house but with a delightful private garden which the dogs enjoyed as much as we did!Robin made every effort to explain all of the amenities of the cottage and she is a warm and friendly hostess which enhanced the holiday experience as we felt very welcome from the moment that we arrived.A guided walk around the farm with Robin meeting all of the animals was truly special and anyone who loves animals and farming would enjoy this. The cottage is immaculately clean and tidy and there are lovely views of the garden. The surrounding hills are spectacular in their solitude and remoteness – a dive or a walk across the hills is also recommended.Coniston is only 30 minutes drive away with a good selection of shops, pubs, the lake and beautiful walks.”

Geoff, June 2019

“Value for money is phenomenal, lovely enclosed garden for dog and walks from the door. Marked down on amenities as you really are very rural, best to get a week shop like we did.You are looking at 30 mins to places like Windermere, though we tended to stay away from the tourist spots during half term. Amazing meat and eggs from the working farm & Robin was attentive and always on hand to help us finding locations to explore. Clean rooms, light and airy, comfy bed. Log burner was a welcome treat in the cold, wet weather we endured.”

Ryan, June 2019

“We had a very relaxing week at High Hurst and enjoyed our third return visit very much. Beautiful unspoilt part of the Lakes where you can get away from it all. Many thanks once again – and hope to see you again next year!”

David, April 2019

“Robin was an excellent host, she welcomed us as soon as we arrived and informed us about local walks and where there were places to eat and shop. In a remote location but was what we wanted, there was plenty to see and was really relaxing. The cottage was dog friendly and had everything we needed and more. The highlight was being able to see all the animals on site. Thank you for a nice experience Robin and Andrew :)”

Claire, March 2019

“Lovely weekend weather was mixed but it never stopped us enjoying the amazing walkers, view from the cottage was beautiful.”

Ellen, March 2019

“A wonderfully comfortable and cosy cottage. The log fire after a day walking the hills was very welcome. The kitchen was well equiped – as was the whole cottage. The enclosed garden was excellent for our dog. A very enjoyable week.”
