The Pentland Hills are a paradise for country lovers and walkers, and Glentress, near Peebles, 15 miles, has a superb range of mountain bike trails and there’s a treetop adventure waiting at Go Ape. Cyclists will enjoy the many local bike paths, including Roslin Glen. Peebles features some fabulous independent shops, restaurants and craft galleries, and for a change of scenery there’s easy access to the sandy beaches of East Lothian, the rolling Borders countryside and the Forth Bridge into Fife.
