The cottage is located behind one of The Twelve Apostles, a famous row of pretty and characterful cottages just a few yards from the beach in this tiny village located just a few miles along the coastal road from Lochranza at the foot of Glen Catacol. Several walks can start from the village including alongside the burn towards Loch Tanna; or past Loch na Davie through Gleann Easan Biorach to Lochranza Distillery, returning on the coast road, over the hill on the Postman’s Walk or by bus. Wildlife that can be seen nearby includes red deer, red squirrels, seals, otters, golden eagles, dolphins, and gannets.

This village has become known as home to three of the world’s rarest and most endangered tree species. A National Nature Reserve in Glen Diomhan, one of Glen Catacol’s side glens is home to some 300 Arran Whitebeams (Sorbus arranensis), and over 200 Cut-Leaved Whitebeams (Sorbus pseudofennica) and the world’s only wild Catacol Whitebeam (Sorbus pseudomeinichii). This is a large part of the total world population of species which, apart from a few kept elsewhere for conservation purposes, are only found on Arran.

The Island of Arran is a beautiful island, known as Scotland in miniature, with spectacular mountains, beautiful white sandy beaches, and varied woodland. Steeped in history, Arran boasts its very own Stone Circles, and is home to two castles, the famous Brodick Castle and Lochranza Castle ruins. For the active, this beautiful island is a walkers’ and cyclists’ paradise. There are excellent beaches, horse riding, water sports, bird watching and six golf courses.

The EPC is F (28).

There is also a wide variety of world-famous island made products ranging from chocolate and cheese to soaps, mustard, and preserves, and of course Lochranza Whisky at the distillery. Pebble beach within 100 yards.

Reviews

“Lovely little well equipped cottage. Good area from which to explore the rest of the beautiful island of Arran.”

“It is a hard job to tread the line between intimate and friendly and professional and businesslike but these owners do just that. Great communication, lovely cottage, wellpresented and with everything we needed and up to date information on road closures was a great additional thing, indicating the care with which this let is managed. Excellent. Cannot praise highly enough.”

“This was a lovely budget bracket cottage, which, although small, had everything a couple of hill walkers could need. It was clean tidy and well equipped. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen had everything and the equipment was readily accessible. The front room TV lounge had a floor, which we were able to double as a wet entry room for the two days that we had bad weather. On the remaining days, we had wonderful sunny weather and were able to complete the Cioch na hOighe traverse to Goatfell, amongst other walks. The owners were extremely warm, kind and helpful on the only occasion we had to contact them.”
