St Cyrus beach is nestled at the bottom of the cliff, which is accessed either by a steep walk from the local church just a few hundred yards away, or for the less adventurous, there is an easy drive down to the beach on the outskirts of the village at the nature reserve. A walk along the shoreline offers a good chance of spotting porpoises and other marine life in the clear waters. The spectacular cliffs and dunes are a National Nature Reserve and home to a variety of wildlife – peregrine falcons and fulmars are often spotted, as well as divers and other sea birds. Deer inhabit the wooded area at the top, and rare butterflies and plants can be found throughout the reserve. The owner has thoughtfully provided binoculars for your enjoyment. St Cyrus is between Montrose and Stonehaven, both bustling seaside towns with golf courses, shops and leisure centres, whilst inland the Angus Glens are easily reached for some excellent walks and spectacular scenery. Fishing is also available locally. Beach 300 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

“A beautiful cottage in a stunning location. We were lucky enough to see the deers each morning too.”

Karen, November 2019

“We had a fabulous 2 week holiday at Sweet Hope; a wonderful location with lovely views and great for the local wildlife – various birds including Buzzards and Bernard the Pheasant. Great fun watching their antics over the cliffs. St Cyrus Bay is lovely with or without the dog and free. Lunan beach with its cafe is just beyond Monrose and well worth a visit, Aberdeen has lovely beaches too and the Torry Battery is a great place for history, views of the shipping in and out of Aberdeen Harbour and Dolphins. Lots to do in the area with good shops in Monrose not far away, lovely fish and chips in Stonehaven and fabulous castle to photograph. Lovely cottage with everything you need for a great holiday the only negative was the weather which was too mild to warrant lighting the log fire! Even the dog is still sulking – missing his regular trips to the beach via the cliff path, great fun for a young energetic Lab! (a bit tough on older knees though!) Many thanks to the owners for a lovely holiday location – we’ll be back.”

“Very spacious and light. Private location and peaceful”

Margaret, September 2019

“We stayed here for 10 days & absolutely loved it. From the moment we arrived, the dog raced about the huge garden (actually…he stole the white ball, can’t find it, but we replaced it with the pink one…sorry!)We had lots of room, played games at night & had the log burner going for comfort, though we were really lucky & only saw rain once. It’s a very quiet location, met the neighbours who gave us plums from their tree, we had a day at Stonehaven, visited Dunottar Castle & walked down to the wee rs mccolls shop a couple of times. The cliff path down to the beach is well worth doing, but keep dogs on leads as it’s very steep. It’s also quite a climb back up so be prepared, but the views are spectacular. You can also access the beach down at Steptoes Yard, lge parking area & 200 yards or so to the beach which is huge & fairly quiet.Sweet Hope was warm, comfortable, plenty of storage & the welcome pack for both us & the dog was much appreciated.Lots of wildlife to be seen including the elusive hedgehog, saw him twice!Emma came over part way into our holiday as the logs were getting finished & the dryer wasn’t working, but we had good weather to dry clothes outside…plenty logs to keep us going & she was very friendly. If we had any criticism, it would be that the shower is slow to drain & there’s no washing basket for laundry…but well worth 5* and we will probably come back…loved it here.”

“Wonderful well equipped lodge at a superb location.”

Peter, September 2019

“Sweet hope is a home from home, it has everything you need to have a great holiday. The cottage is very clean and comfortable, set in a relaxing setting engulfed in an abundance of birds and wildlife. On a clear night it is excellent for a bit of star gazing, there are a lots of places to visit most not to far to travel. When we arrived we where left some goody’s to make us feel welcome, the beach is long, clean and most of the time you have it to yourself its just a great place. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sweet Hope, We would stay longer next time.ps, The cottage is very dog friendly and enclosed.”

“Beautiful spacious bungalow located in a cliff top in a nature reserve. Lovely modern and clean accommodation with enty of outdoor space. We had our dachshund with us and she loved the enclosed garden where she could explore. Only missing thing for us was a bbq area but that was only a minor thing. Saw deer and a fox and plenty of variations of birds that we could view in the bungalow’s binoculars.”

Helen, June 2019

“Very comfortable and well equipped cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as did our dog!”

Alastair, May 2019

“This was honestly home from home. Awesome views and marvellous hospitality. Great walks on the beach and a lovely welcoming dog friendly pub for that well earned pint after the walk up from the sea.”
